Controversy about a poem by Mao Zedong “ Qinyuan chun – Xue” (“ Snow, the tune of ‘ Springtime in the garden of Qin’”). “ Snow”, written in February 1936 is probably Mao Zedong’s most famous poem, as well as being his personal favourite. It is also his most controversial one, as much for its style and its content. The poem reveals his enthusiasm for the future and his determination to take control of his country’s destiny. It was published in Chongqing in 1945 and caused a sensation in the capital and across the country. A campaign against imperial despotism and the feudalism surrounding “ Snow” was launched in the press.
